I’m a outdoor sports enthusiast, mountain biking, surfing, off road running ....
Anyone think Hancock will ban ‘dangerous’ sports in case we end up troubling the NHS?
Or is this a ridiculous idea?
That's assuming we are allowed outdoors except for purposes of work..other than that being outdoors might lead to the tenth wave..
😆 😆 😆 😡
Ah, but it isn't only about saving the NHS now. It's about beating the virus. This new agenda reflects a failure to distinguish between two goals.
1. Making sure the NHS is not overwhelmed, so that if you suffer any illness or accident it will be there for you.
2. Saving the individual from getting covid.
Only 1. could actually justify taking away our everyday liberties (and even then it is not clear that it really could). If you want to achieve 2. and are seriously worried about your own risk, stay at home yourself, don't lock up the rest of us. But once it is thought that 2. justifies deprivation of liberty, of course it will be thought to justify stopping you from engaging in dangerous sports. Then if you challenge this, you will be told that it is about saving the NHS, even though it is well able to cope with a steady flow of broken bones and people have paid plenty of taxes to fund a bone-mending service which allows them to engage in dangerous sports.
I’m afraid the NHS has ceased to be a public service and exists purely to justify itself. It’s an organ of the state that would do any communist regime proud. Hancock is just the latest in a long line of health secretaries that have failed to tame the beast. To his credit, he seems to have realised it is easier to feed the monster than try to change it. Unfortunately, by deifying it he is leading us down a path which will indeed mean people will be punished for threatening its existence. I imagine it won’t be too long until they start prioritising, much more aggressively, those who can and those who cannot be accepted for treatment in its hallowed wards.
Take care out there dangerous sports fans. No one wants to be admitted for a stay in hospital to mend broken bones. You might come out with something you never arrived with. God forbid you should die from your injuries, you would not want to artificially inflate the figures for Covid deaths with a broken neck now would you?
Take care out there!
Have a good one.
