SAGE has demonstrably lied in its advise to government.

The government has control of SAGE. It is absolutely vital for continuance of government policy that SAGE continues to give buy in to the idea that the virus is totally horrendous. If SAGE accepted the true threat, the government would be be enmeshed in a scanda lfor trashing the economy for Sweet FA. Hence, the government demands dire warnings from SAGE, to prevent exposure. SAGE is being controlled.

Yeardon is one person.

Yeadon has a blind spot. He knows Vallance, and thinks he's smart and thinks well of him. Hence Yeadon is mystified about Vallance's motives.

He doesn't realise that SAGE is not pushing government.

It's going the other way. Government is forcing SAGE to make dire warnings on demand.

That's what keeps the BIG LIE going that there will be huge number od deaths. It is absolutely imperitive, for continuance of goverment that SAGE is ordered to buy in to the idea that the virus is the biggest ever threat. If that buy is withdrawn for one second, the government collapses in biggest scandal ever.

Initially, SAGE's exaggerated predictions terrified the government. The government had a knee-jerk reaction and did not check for a wider scientific consensus. They co-opted the media and terrified (even terrorised) the public with their implementation of extreme anti-covid measures.

The government insisted all along that they were being guided by the science. This could be an indication that they may even have been a bit sceptical themselves, hence the initial delay in their actions. The action of other countries also forced their hand. Those other countries (apart from Sweden) were also duped by the same exaggerated predictions.

The government now find themselves in an increasingly challenged position, trying to find a way out without looking foolish. So now it may be the other way round. They may be influencing SAGE. They are certainly dishonestly presenting their own statistics obtained largely by the inappropriate use of mass PCR testing. If it were not for these tests, I don't think there would have been a second lock-down and the tier systems.

It is quite plausible that both SAGE and the government have screwed up and are trying to cover their backsides. They have dragged each other down.

Well it was a slow turn. Emails shoe Vallance had started out supporting herd immunity, but academics around him shrieked and went berserk, and Italy was in the news, it was pandemonium there, Vallance started to steer a middle course endorsing some herd immunity, some interventions, dire fatality predictions started to leak into the MSM, there was an MSM backlash against herd immunity, that became the narrative, Vallanve panics, drop herd immunity completely, Dr David Halpern, chief executive of the government's nudge unit wades in puts a stop to the dithering. Vallance learned to support concrete intervention policy. He would not dither again, and the government saw the chance of being guided by the science, thus transferring all risk onto scientists.

The government now find themselves in an increasingly challenged position, trying to find a way out without looking foolish. So now it may be the other way round. They may be influencing SAGE.

Government is saying to science " You got us into this mess ... now you get us out of it!"
The only way our while maintain power, control, dignity, authority is to maintain the BIG LIE that Covid19 is rife using the useful false positive rate of the mass PCR testing.

It is quite plausible that both SAGE and the government have screwed up and are trying to cover their backsides. They have dragged each other down.

Yes. Like a powerful drug, when you can stop the lying, you don't want to, and when you want to stop the lying, you can't. It's an addiction that motivates forever more extreme lying. A typical coverup.
