Realistically most countries are going to require a vaccine to get a visa so the airline policy won't matter.
There's already a fair bit of historic precedent on this with yellow fever and so on.
I’ve read about the yellow fever vaccine but still I’m struggling to find any info to state that it is a requirement for entry rather than simply being a recommendation.
Like I said in my original post, there’s a big difference between yellow fever and COVID. Plus there is the fact that the yellow fever vaccine is more established than the COVID one.
Unless the vaccines are officially required by governments as part of a visa application process if any airlines brings in this policy independently I can see about 100,000 plus product liability lawyers / personal injury lawyers in the US rubbing their hands together in anticipation at the decades of future class action and personal injury lawsuits they will be able to bring against the airlines.
There will be adverse reactions to the vaccines. That a given. There are so many possible legal approaches that a really creative lawyer could use to make the airline legally liable for adverse reactions (whether real or imaginary) that it would be commercial suicide for any airline to try to enforce any kind of vaccination rule without it having the full force of a government visa requirement behind it.
Remember the pharma companies will have zero product liability exposure no matter what happens. So the airlines would be the next deep pockets candidate in the firing line. If any are left.
Saying that I can imagine Oz and especially NZ doing something like that. Something that stupid. Requiring vaccination as an entry requirement and kissing goodbye to their tourist industry for the foreseeable future. Other countries, much less likely. For various reasons. When it comes to control freekery I think Jacinda Ardern in NZ is going to be hard to beat. And I get the feeling the Nats were secretly not that unhappy to lose the election. You do the future economic numbers and they look terrible. Much worse than even the 1980's. So very much an election to lose. And the Oz PM is little better. Although in his case he only got the job because of who he wasnt. So not exactly reassuring.
We have to stop flying for a year.
That will do it.
At the moment they think they hold the cards, we want to travel.
We need to walk away if we are to retain our principles.
They’ll fold and come begging if we do that.
But most of the chumps won’t and will fall in.
If I'm not mistaken, I think Qantas was the vile airline that humiliated a perfectly innocent man who just happened to be seated next to children that weren't his - they asked him to move so a woman (who wasn't their mother) could be sat there instead. So the implication was that ALL men are paedophilic sexual predators.
Just going off piste a little re airline's vaccination policy, I'm pretty sure it was Qantas that humiliated a perfectly innocent man who just happened to be sat next to children that weren't his and moved him in favour of a woman who wasn't their mother. So basically this airline thinks all men are sexual predators and paedophiles. 😡👎
