If you’ve not already seen the news story re. the announcement from Qantas CEO and friend of the WEF Alan Joyce, then you can see it here.

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/business/2020/nov/24/qantas-boss-says-all-international-travellers-on-airline-will-have-to-have-vaccination

The consensus on social media is that people are very against this and the hashtag #boycottqantas has started trending on social media (not that Twitter will let you know that!), just like it did when TickeMaster mentioned introducing a similar policy.

However, just like anything, some people are totally in favour of the approach and I fear that the longer lockdowns etc go on, the more people will be swayed in favour of this idea. The main argument that people put forward are that some countries already require vaccines for entry. But where are these countries? Are they somewhere you’d actually visit? And what are the vaccines for?

Being vaccinated for entry to Mongolia for a disease that means instant death if you catch it, is for 99% of the population not an issues because (i) they’d never dream of going there in the first place and (ii) most people would not refuse a vaccine for such a deadly disease. However, what is being proposed by the airlines is very different. What is proposed is a brand new vaccine for what is essentially a bad flu.

And be assured any other forms or international transport will follow suit if this becomes the norm - so no travelling out of the country you live on for those unwilling to be vaccinated (for whatever reason).

Another argument put forward by those on social media who are in favour is that no ons is forcing you to fly. That’s the rule and If you don’t like it then don’t fly. That’s a bit like saying you now need a tattoo on your face to drive - no one is forcing you to drive so if you don’t want a tattoo on your face then don’t moan about not being able to drive. With the world now being so small and interconnected many people rely on flying for work and why should I have to give up something that I love doing just to make someone feel a little bit safer after being brainwashed with nonesense.

Hope I’m not alone in my thoughts. A world of increased surveillance etc I can just about begrudgingly deal with, but to lose the ability to travel abroad and show my young children the world, well that is enough to make this grown man cry 😢

Wouldnt worry about Qantas anyway.
In the region everyone uses Air Asia and for long haul the ME3 of Etihad, Emirates and Qatar.

Qantas were in dire financial trouble even before this. They're not a major airline.

That said, some countries do and always have required vaccination for entry. I suspect most will want a SARs2 vaccine to get a visa.

The issue with Qantas requiring a vaccine to fly is that it is the canary in the coal mine. If it is not shutdown immediately, it'll just be a pilot (no pun intended) program and all other airlines will be forced to follow suit as a standard requirement.

Realistically most countries are going to require a vaccine to get a visa so the airline policy won't matter.
There's already a fair bit of historic precedent on this with yellow fever and so on.
