Polls in the MSM over the last few months suggested widespread public support to further lockdown measures, and, perversely, to even tighter restrictions being imposed. The reality that I'm living in though is showing a different picture, especially as I see the new local and regional 'tiered' lockdowns being imposed across the nation.
I'm beginning to hear more and more dissenting voices. From family and friends ('old-school' traditional types) who typically were of the view that government and scientists *must* surely know best. To the comments that I'm seeing on social media from normally quiet people angry about the new lockdowns (these are people typically affected by the lockdowns) feeling that the lockdowns are unfair and disproportionate.
The fractures in the public's support of the UKGov's lockdown strategy are beginning to show and the cracks will widen further as more people are affected by their measures.
I feel this is an encouraging turning point for us sceptics.
Agreed. Yesterday I scrolled through many comments on a tweet of a BBC report of Andy Burnham's leadership of Manchester resistance to lockdown, not from the 'usual suspects' (people who post here!). I saw it after a retweet by a London Lib Dem councillor I follow who I though was strongly pro-lockdown. There was a lot of support for Mr. Burnham. One or two hardliners ('the law must be enforced by the police and the army if necessary': perhaps the contributor of that comment thinks that speeding motorists should be marched away at bayonet point). On the whole Manchester's resistance was applauded.
In the end it is a recognition that the costs to health, prosperity and well-being of lockdown are too high which will win the argument in UK, and not fear of tolitarianism (which is still a powerful force in Germany and Austria). Lockdown is a very strong medicine for an emergency. Strong medicine continued for months can be fatal.
Great and encouraging post 'takeme'. Gave me a warm feeling for the first time in weeks that the sheep might finally be waking up. Living here in Leicester as l do, l have first hand experience that lockdowns are utterly futile, been locked-down since 29th June now with cases (allegedly) three times higher than they were back in June. The use of eight armed police officers being used to issue a fine to a Liverpool gym owner who refused to close, should also raise alarm bells. I mean really EIGHT armed officers, perhaps Priti Patel should reassign some of her allocated budget to the NHS, or should that now be the National Covid Service!
8 Armed Police to issue a fine..
I mean honestly its an attempt at intimidation at an utterly ridiculous degree.
I don't know who's decision it was to hit him that hard but it'll rebound.
They don't have enough police or military to control us if we all decided enough was enough.
Ant thats whet they're scared of..
I really hope so.i think they will already have planned measures to deal with resistance in place but let's hope the resistance wins. They have stripped us of our freedoms and liberties and I dont think they will give those back to us again without a fight.
🙄
