They really do not want a return to normal do they?
And the inference that the "presence of alcohol" will be judged as to whether it is a contributory factor attests to what I said many weeks ago that the health fascists in the govt and Sage are actually moving to the next phase which is to clamp down on booze. The reopening of pubs is the one thing they are insistent will come last and I'm more convinced it'll end up with them coming out with the same or similar utter bollocks as putting conditions on pubs only serving alcohol with meals. How can alcohol be to blame when the data shows how many infections were caught in hospital?
The absolute death knell for traditional pubs their customers and supply chains.
And it seems that's what the govt wants.

There already is a burgeoning 'speakeasy' sub-culture. I'm sure thats not what the govt wants. Local govt taxation is calculated on turnover, not profit, of licenced premises. Which has driven a huge number of traditional premises out of business. Now the remainder are set to follow and deny the tax to LG.

It's a good point, but not a reality for the majority of pubs. Licences at risk too which is where the govt knows it has the whip hand because losing a licence could trigger all sorts of other defaults across the spectrum from losing a lease, management position, even home where accommodation is provided or attached to licensed premises.

You are right CoronanationStreet. The power and control that is wielded to the point of abuse by Local Government officials plus the readiness of local zealots to dob their neighbours in has ensured that few pubs will take the risk. No, the speakeasy, as it was in prohibition days in the US, is springing up in unlikely premises known to a limited number of trusted friends/customers. Its not helping the pubs as, when and if they open will be bound by ridiculous regulastions that many will prefer to carry on meeting below the radar. The LG lockdowners and their fellow travellers only have themselves to blame.
I stated at the beginning of this SCAM that it was always the intention of Bozo et al that pubs and the rest of the hospitality industry would be driven out of business - it has to be so.
Pubs, restaurants, hotels are social places, centres of feel good, of friendship, kinship and camaraderie; places where people can unwind, unload, talk, joke, discuss. These places are centres of humanity and confirm all that is good in our comings-together; they bind and support us. For all these reasons they must be destroyed because they confirm and strengthen societal bonds and these must be done away with in order to bring in the dystopia of Orwell's 1984.
Pubs and the rest will be gone by the end of this year.
There are comments on here that tax revenues will suffer but that is by the by. A monumental restructuring of the world-wide financial system is on the way, digital no doubt but make no mistake it is coming. Our national debt is beyond manageable now and so too in the USA. Printing money day after day means the RESET is imminent and certainly before year end.
