In brief:
A damaged yacht taking on water, denied entry to New Zealand two days out where it would be a week back into the trade winds to sail to the next closest place - Fiji. They head to the nearest safe haven - New Zealand and are subsequently locked up! Wrong on so many many many levels,. A very worrying time indeed when countries would rather send a damaged yacht and her crew to sea than offer them a safety.
