Lesson to the messes: Stay away from others, is the first thing, esp. if you've got it. And get vaccinated when the chance comes. Otherwise keep calm and carry on. There , that's it, the masses are educated.

Lesson to the government, don't try lockdowns, they don't work and they do more harm than good . Instead, shield the vulnerable properly. Keep everything else going just the same, do not spook everybody. Basically, keep calm and carry on.

So that's the government, and the masses all educated.

SARs CoV 2 is actually just another general circulation human corona-virus with the same kind of Infection Mortality Rate and Case Fatality Rate as the other four general circulation human corona-viruses which we human have lived with for many thousands of years and which all of us have had dozens of infections from during out lifetime. Mostly as children.

At the moment the same sort of high risk people are dying at pretty much the same rate from viral pneumonia as in previous years. The only difference is the mix of viral causes. This year we now have a novel virus added into the usual mix of Influenza, RSV's and the other HCOVs

That's a much more clinically accurate description of what is going on.

Fair enough, but I'll say this.These human corona-virii were novel, at some time, and we assume, when they were, they killed many who were exposed initially. It's only because of natural selection within our tree of life that we survive, and it is due to natural selection in virii that novel ones still crop up. I'm just saying; in the old days, when these virii were novel, the king could not have done lockdown or found a vaccine, it was not an option for him, for better or worse.

Now the king (for the first time in history) does have that option, so it is our lot to endure it for the king's experiment, his pleasure or his education or whatever you want to call it. Obvsly, the "king" is now advised by a committee; SAGE.

When I was a boy, in the 50's and 60's, pneumonia as a deadly killer was still fresh in people's minds.

Pneumonia, as a common or routine cause of death in healthy, younger, or even slightly older people, had been practically eradicated before covid-19, even in winter, helped in part by reduction in smoking.

Covid-19 has brought it right back with a vengeance. And that, I'm afraid jmc, is regarded as an insult against progress which cannot be tolerated by the boomer generation and their offspring.

I fear there may be many more insults against progress, still in store for us. Until now, progress has been associated with incremental improvement, but here's the rub, each "improvement" (plastic, antibiotics, vaccines, energy-usage...) leaves some unpaid debt to nature.
