Mission Creep

I generally wear a mask (left it off a few times in trains and shops because I genuinely forgot and nothing happened) because I feel it's taking the piss a bit to pretend it makes me "severely distressed" or similar when it's just mildly annoying and I dislike the symbol it has become. Plus I feel like it's not really the fault of most of the people in shops etc who ask me to wear the mask - they're just trying to follow rules and keep their shop/takeaway open - they're not the ones making up the stupid rules.

But anyway, my favourite story is stepping into a small family owned coffee shop (ie, the kind of place which really doesn't have the kind of resources Starbucks does) to get a takeaway (this was pre-lockdown - in fact, I think it may have even pre-dated the Tier system - probably in September).

I had my mask in my hand as I walked in the door and was literally raising it to my face to put it on, when the guy at the counter told me I needed to wear a mask to come in. But I'd actually finished putting it on by the time he completed his sentence. Then he said I needed to put it on outside before coming in, and I asked him "What do you want me to do? Go back outside, take the mask off, put it back on outside, and come back in?" And he was like "Yes".

I told him "No thanks" and walked out to the coffee shop 100 yards down the road where a very nice lady made me a great cup of coffee with no nonsense.

Normally I'm very much of the view that the people in shops are struggling trying to implement stupid rules implemented by politicians and bureaucrats and we shouldn't make their lives even more difficult than they already are (that's why I wear masks I know are pointless). But the level of stupidity in that encounter was over the top, and that cafe lost me as a customer not just that day but as a long term several-times-a-week customer (it's right next to my new gym - if they hadn't been so stupid I'd have probably been in there 3-5 times a week after my workout).

I dont wear a mask as I found it restricts my breathing and is claustrophobic as well as not agreeing with wearing them.

I've developed a similar policy. I won't patronise any businesses that have needlessly hectoring signs (e.g. 'NO MASK, NO ENTRY, NO EXCEPTIONS'). I appreciate it's a difficult time for the hospitality industry and independent shops, but this is just unneccessarily heavy handed and they're contributing to the climate that is causing their business struggle.

Soon, all your contributions to the NHS via National Insurance will be irrelevant anyway because you will be refused treatment if you refuse to have Kill Gates's poison injected into you ie the world's fastest vaccine. 😡

It's all over the Tube in London. The loudspeaker announcements telling us that we should make sure we wear a mask to ensure we have a safer journey.

Now, leaving aside whether masks make any difference to the virus, wearing a mask will not make a blind bit of difference as to whether I manage to walk out of the transitory care offered by London Underground alive or in one piece.

At least no more than they cared about for the last 100 odd years whether anyone caught anything else in their filthy carriages.
