Hi miahoneybee. We seem to be living more and more in a police state.
The LIBERTY Site CORONAVIRUS: WHAT CAN THE POLICE DO? is full of good info.
I cannot really add a lot to it other than a few pointers;
Important: Video the encounter and if possible get others to. Its not illegal and no doubt the police will be using their bodycams.
Try to stay calm and be polite when dealing with the police. Aggression gets you nowhere.
If you decide not to give your details to the police this will probably just give the coppers the hump, and an excuse to arrest you. Passive resistance is the name of the game.
If you give them your details keep it minimal . Do not give out any more than name and address. This is where the No Comment bit comes in.
They will probably try to issue a Fixed Penalty Fine.*
If you are arrested and cautioned You should be told why and under what legislation you are being arrested . Although you may have to demand that information. Again No Comment without legal representation. which you are entitled to.
*The issues of fines are under Fixed Penalty Notice regulations; these were established for 'relatively minor regulatory offences' It would be very difficult to persuade a Court of Law that £1,000 fines under the Public Health Act are legitimate (funnily enough, CPS have dropped lots of such cases!).
Hope this helps.
Thanks burlington that really does..I will have to do some scenarios as role play to keep my cool 😉hopefully I never have to but practise makes perfect 😉.
😀
