The Great Grandparent Referendum

I think we need to somehow sever the groupthink and implied selfishness of the lockdown sceptics and seek consensus on the original justification: Has anyone bothered to poll the thoughts of the over 70s?

Obviously now this has become a much bigger and more consequential issue than Brexit. So why not ask our much loved Nans and Grandads if they actually want protecting from their grandkids, want their family deprived of cancer treatment, hip replacements, and the likelihood of stable employment? If they want to die behind a plastic screen apart from their family and given a DNAR, to....save (other people's, presumably) lives?

Our elderly are not being protected and they are being used as the justification for the most brazen erosion of liberty in living memory. The most unedifying aspect of the whole business is the exclusion of these people from the public debate

If we genuinely give a toss about the elderly (and this is predominantly an elderly issue), it might be more democratic and less patronising to actually ask their viewls..?

We're still on course for zero annual excess deaths this year, despite the concerted statistical chicanery and mendacity.

Placebo (aka hope, or provisional optimism) is the strongest curative known to mankind. So let's ask the nation's grandparents what they hope for.

What are people's thoughts on this approach?
Could it work?

I think everything we can use is worth a try than to continue on this road of destruction.
I overheard in a cafe ( they might not last long either) two elder ladies chatting. They sounded downtrodden and depressed. They were sceptical about the whole lockdown rubbish and draconian rules coming out of parliament.they sounded very frightened and confused.i did not want to but into their conversation but on my way out I really wished I had been able to discreetly hand them a leaflet with alternative sceptic literature for them to read and discuss together and with other friends/family.
Another conversation I overheard ( yes we were the obligatory 2 metres between tables 😉) was between a middle aged lady and her mum who in her words " had broken the rules" to take her elderly mum out but she was anxious about it and any consequences. They were discussing christmas. Both expressed anxiety and depression.both were not sleeping well. They too questioned the government narrative and propaganda. To my horror she talked about a present she had sent to a friend " a designer mask" and her friend had " been delighted with it". So you had many clear contradictions going on. Again I wished I had had some literature to hand.
On another note again in a cafe an elderly gentleman collapsed in front of me and smacked his head against the window.he still had his mask on ( forgotten to remove it at the table) .I assisted him and it turns out he had felt dizzy, was short of breath and had passed out. I removed his mask so he could breath. An ambulance had been called. I wont go into his medical details but needless to say he should never have been made to wear one. He was fully exempt but didnt know he could be.i advised him to keep the mask of always and the same for his wife who was in total shock which was heartbreaking to see.
I have witnessed an elderly lady collapse and hit the pavement with her head ( no sign of an ambulance coming that time). She had been wearing it on the bus and had felt dizzy but kept it on outside struggling to walk up a hill.she had not thought to take off her mask because she was frightened and confused a out " the rules".
I have witnessed 2 healthy people at work collapse . They had both felt dizzy.masks at work have to be worn ( I have a compromise).I suspect I will see a lot more of this and a lot more illness with lowered immune systems.
So yes i think there are a lot more people including the elderly receptive to hear about lockdown scepticism.
😀

Yes, absolutely.

My neighbour is in her 70s and had to shield because she has COPD and various other health problems. She is usually very active and sociable - goes bowling, meets up with friends for coffee or lunch, goes off to National Trust properties, garden centres etc.

Her daughter and her family live in a converted outbuilding on the same property. Obviously, her family have been very protective of her throughout the lockdown.

Now, she is going crazy. She comes down the lane to visit me and my husband and while she's here enjoying an illegal cup of tea in our kitchen, she rants about the "dickheads" that are preventing her from living her life - meaning her own family!

Her son (from a previous marriage) just broke lockdown in Wales to visit his gf in England, and my neighbour is keeping this a secret from her husband because he wouldn't approve. She also sneaks off for shopping trips when she can get away without anyone in her family noticing.

Even though she is in a high-risk category, she most definitely does not want to be protected: she wants to live her life.

Good for her. Live your life now and enjoy every moment while you can cos the dickheads in goverment and those behind the scenes are hellbent on eroding any scrap of pleasure in out loves.
Love that she is sneaking out..sad and poignant she has to but great.
I have told my mum to do the same.we could never keep her in.then she had to shield and was sad and depressed being pretty much jailed inside her house. She had one illness after another ( bloody zoom If lucky and phone appointments).thankfully she listened to myself and a sceptic sister ( the other sis is sadly not) then once she went out we now cant keep her in.she is meeting family and friends again and although limited to where she can go ( that's still open) she is loving it and is happy and healthy again.

The only way this will change if it becomes impossible to ignore, or if enough people decide they've had enough of restrictions.

If we are to defeat lockdowns then the architects of lockdown must be discredited.

First, we have to discredit the lockdown. Otherwise there will be no apparent reason to discredit its architects.
Can anyone make a short audio clip of Yeadon's accusations to share on social media?

Thanks. I will listen later. Meanwhile, I have directly downloaded the audio file here:

I am sure someone can edit to suit.
