The forum is not as good, spoilt a good format
Have mailed 'the management'
The main message
'Although some of the comments were quite extreme and, I expect required some moderator time, it has been a hugely important facility for providing information and mutual support.
Comments just for certain specific items do not fulfill the same needs.'
Had not properly read Toby's article yesterday - extract below
It is not clear how enabling comments on Today's Update would increase the workload of those compiling the update.

As you’ll see from this post, you’ll be able to share each stand-alone item on Twitter, Facebook, etc. by clicking on one of the icons at the bottom. We’ll also tag each post which will make it easier to find related comments. You’ll no longer be able to comment on the daily update because of the new format, but you’ll be able to comment on each individual story, which should make for a more focused discussion. And you’ll still be able to post comments in the Forums – no changes there.
The reason for the change is partly to make it easier to comment on – and share – individual stories, but also so the people who bring you Lockdown Sceptics don’t have to take turns to stay up until dawn to prepare the daily update. The update that email subscribers will receive, and which will still be viewable on the site, will consist of a newly refreshed version of everything from the Round-Up on downwards – which we call “below the fold” – plus all the stories that have been posted to the rolling news blog in the previous 24 hours.
That was the most impressively shit website update I've ever seen. Unusable now.
Thanks to all that the team did over the last year, sad it's over, it was an important community for me and now it's gone.
Where is the comments section?
I think it was one of the most useful parts of the daily update, even if I didn't add a comment. It was supportive to read that so many other people had similar thoughts and frustrations and anger. I'm surrounded by morons in my daily life, people still watching the bbc news on a daily basis, wearing masks alone in their cars and crossing the road to avoid walking within 2 metres of me. The comments page here kept me sane and gave me hope. Its loss will add to my depression.
