Imagine the BIG ONE is some kind of killer virus IFR 40%!
Now there is one angle from which everything makes perfect sense. First let's accept for a moment that Boris fears the BIG ONE is right around the corner. Hence the hard lockdowns etc. make sense. But I'll show that it is not necessary to believe Boris fears a BIG ONE. There is a better way to explain absolutely everything.
Boris and Matt Hancock must know by now that this piddly CoronaVirus is not the BIG ONE. And so we have all been mystified by their behaviour, but the explanation is elementary.
Boris is not motivated by fear of the BIG ONE but by fear he could be found out about a little lie after SAGE/ SPI-M screwed up. The little lie started out hidden in the bowels of Prof. Niel Ferguson's flaky epidemiological model, but only became a Goebbels BIG LIE see below, when they tried to cover the consquences of all the errors up by fiercely suppressing all dissent about the run of the virus.
And that's where things stand today. Boris and Matt Hancock are enmeshed in a coverup which has become a Goebbels BIG LIE. They are covering up that they know the BIG ONE is NOT around the corner by acting exactly as if it is! Voila!
It's as simple as that - it's a grubby little coverup story. A small mistake that got huge only mostly due to the coverup, which ballooned into the BIG LIE that needed to be repeated over and over until people eventually came to believe it.
Goebbel's BIG LIE If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.
Once it has serves its initial purpose, to obscure the childish mistakes, the BIG LIE that the BIG ONE is about to strike can be dealt with using another BIG LIE, i.e that only a miracle vaccine can "defeat" the BIG ONE.
Various combinations of new BIG ONES and BIG LIES in succession can be applied via willing mouthpieces in the MSM to keep the propaganda going. I fear that Boris Johnson with Dominic Cumming's help has experimented with a high level of misanthropy.
Familiar BIG ONEs include climate change, stock market collapse, resource depletion, nuclear annihilation, economic hegemony, the whole gamut of "Project Fear".
I expect they will get round to all those in due course, if they have not done so already. Thinking back one of the recent BIG ONEs was "Iraq's Weapons of Mass Destruction", and the concomitant BIG LIE was the dodgy Dossier. When will we ever learn?
