Actually from a nurse friend - they approached all the retired nurses and other medics and asked them to come back.
Plenty volunteered - but then - crickets....
I can't understand why the excess capacity created by the Nightingale hospital can't be used to provide care for probable, but not critical Covid patients,
My understanding is that while constructing the Nightingale Hospital gave them beds etc. there is insufficient trained/qualified medical staff.
There are plenty of volunteers but not the phe/NHS management will/imagination/drive to make it work. Just hysterical headless chickens in charge of squandering billions of taxpayers newly printed money.
Yes I think we can all agree about the inherent dysfunctionality of our "marvellous" NHS, which has unfortunately become an object of religious faith and so beyond scrutiny. The Nightingale Hospital at the O2 is a disgraceful example of waste. Quietly dismantled after huge expense and now might actually be useful. I'm sure staffing is the main issue but for heaven's sake they've had 8 months to prepare. And for a fraction of the cost of Track, Trace and testing they could have recruited tons of temps and retired nurses at premium rates and launched crash courses for volunteer emergency help. Just needed a bit of imagination and thinking outside the box.
That's a big ask..efficiency and imagination..
