Yesterday morning a work colleague in Cyprus called and asked in some alarm:
"How are things where you are? What are the rules? How are you coping?"
(By the way I am in France.)
I paused for a few seconds and had to think before replying ...
"I am not actually sure. I am sort of out of touch with it all."
I then laughed out loud at the relief!
In fact, over the last few weeks, I have gradually, and effectively, started ignoring all covid related rules and regulations. I go out when I want, where I want, never wear a mask (although I keep one in my pocket in case some idle policeman has nothing better to do - and that has not happened yet) and pretty much carry on as normal.
When I look at newspapers, I just scan over anything to do with covid and rarely go into any article. You will be amazed there are other things happening in the world - once you blank out the covid news!
The only thing that could be different is that the bars and restaurants are closed until 20 January but ... thankfully I know of three such establishments nearby that are quietly serving trusted regulars. So, even if I want to have a beer in a bar or a meal in a restaurant, no problem!
I heard a rumour that there is supposed to be some sort of curfew here from 8 or 9 pm to 6 am. Last night my good lady went out for drinks with her gang and wandered home at 10:30. I asked her what it felt like to break the law and she beamed "fantastic"!
So, this is my advice: as much as you can, just ignore it!
Whenever some government minister or "health expert" starts lecturing, the response should be: "nope, I am bored of this game and not playing anymore. Bye."
And now I am listening to the news on BBC radio over the internet and hearing all about not sharing spoons when passing around the sprouts and cranberry sauce and am just laughing tragically at the news from Planet Zogg.
I hear some people are actually meeting in car parks to exchange gifts?! The ones under our tree are piling up in anticipation for a grand get-together next week. Perhaps there are "guidelines" about this ... I don't know and I am not interested. Not even going to look. As far as I am concerned, the only bubbles worth thinking about and looking forward to over Christmas, are the ones in the bubbly 😉
Switch your mode of thinking. You could be amazed at how different the world will look and the sudden wave of relief that sweeps over you!
And with Christmas coming up, timing could not be better to implement this new year's resolution a couple of weeks early 😀
I stopped watching/reading the BBC over a decade over. But more recently, I have stopped looking at ALL mainstream media, with the possible exception of scanning the headlines of the Telegraph. I no longer hear any crackpot garbage coming from government unless someone tells me.
I hardly even look at Youtube any more (I used to be addicted). I killed my Facebook account about two months ago. Instead, I read/watch LotusEaters.com, Epoch Times and Parlor.
Good to hear bars and restaurants in France are serving people again. Not happening here I'm afraid (or at least I haven't found any). The police and covid space marshalls are everywhere. Moreover, I saw too many publicans behave as though they had acquired some special official powers to police their customers. While I think it's monstrous what has been done to the hospitality industry, at least one or two of them deserve it.
A man after my own heart. Always enjoy reading your posts.
Always enjoy your posts Teebs. I usually forward your reports on to a Parisian sceptic friend of mine.
I wish there were speakeasies in the UK. They would provide a bit of excitement at this dreary time.
Yep no underground bars to speak of to spice things up..such a shame..never say never though..
😀
