Completely agree: I've been saying for most of the past year that this Covid nonsense is a new religion for a godless people.

And sadly the people love it. It seems to have given meaning to their lives in an age of vapid consumerism.

Look at what they've gained...

They have fellowship ("we're all in this together"); they have their rites and sacraments (the solemn sanitising of the hands; the obedient wearing of facemasks; the holy "Safety Dance" when they see an oncoming pedestrian approach); their sacred cows (the blessèd NHS, peace be upon it); saints to venerate (the doctors & nurses --- just don't mention the TikTok videos); and blasphemy laws are now no doubt about to come into force against "Covid deniers" and "anti-vaxxers" for spreading sacrilegious "misinformation".

It is true (whether Chesterton actually said it or not) that when people cease to believe in God, they don't simply believe in nothing at all --- they instead believe in anything. ...As the Corona-Clown-show has amply illustrated.

Unfortunately, as with any fanatical new religion, heretics are apt to end up being persecuted...
