Just a thought, when I look at doctors (and not all doctors/priests fall into this - but the industry/church certainly does IMO) today and think of the priests of a generation ago, I cannot help seeing the parallels - and wonder is modern "medicine" about to get the same treatment as the church? Just a quick comparison ...

  • A single dogma that cannot be questioned

  • Dogma withheld from the public - ie the populace are not capable of interpreting or understanding

  • Arrogant assumption to have all the answers. No discussion.

  • Tell the public what to do and how to behave - and expects full compliance without questioning

  • Authorities (government and state institutions) captive to them

  • Criticism of the dogma from within results in excommunication (cancelled)

  • Criticism from without - cancelled and de-humanised (pagan, anti-vaxer, conspiracy theorist etc)

  • Above criticism, cannot be questioned. Severe reaction to questioning. Immense Arrogance.

  • Enjoys the trust of the population which is incredibly abused

  • Deluded sense of importance

  • Penetrates into all aspects of life - from birth to death. No escape.
  • Even death is becoming a 'procedure' to be managed, and death is always seen as a failure - maybe that is one differentiator, at least the church has a more human approach to death.

    Just a thought ....

I think you have it about right. Perhaps it is not so much Doctors ( although there were always well intentioned Priests ) as Public Health vs the Church as a descrpition of the New Tyranny

Perhaps we can also consider the effect of this new religion on the people who worship at the alter of conformity.
In the college my child is at they had their 'course represenatives' meeting via Microsoft Teams yesterday and all of them, bar one (guess who), were demanding more rules and restrictions.
Screaming acolytes want proof at the college door of any home test, they want tutors checking students as they enter for such proof, they are demanding this as they are at risk because granny might have something via the (until now) unaffected children previously milling about for months without these new rules where no one died. They want more testing and masks all the time.
The students WANT more rules, more restrictions and to push beyond the 'guidance' to show how 'safe' everyone will be. The legalities of any of this passes them by.
There were more ludicrous suggestions as they competed to show their caring side.
A new religion it is, dividing people into For/Against and hunting heretics to burn. In a few years these morons will be in charge, in jobs, running things wherever they end up. They are the same people who were desperate to get back to college for a life, just not one of logic, proportion and real science, but one of fear, control and division. I hope they understand that they should be careful what they wish for, they might just get it. And no complaining aftewards!

This is a brilliant post lds001.
You have absolutely identified that Covid has become the new tool of fear and control of the populace similar to how religion was used in the middle ages.
Non believers are all considered dangerous heretics who must be punished, ostracised and trolled by the whole of society.
I had a survey from my professional governing body this morning, regards long Covid, laughably just about every pathological symptom known to the human race is a symptom of long Covid.
So here again any ailment, disease or misfortune befalling an individual or family will be attributed to long Covid, just as these were blamed on lack of pure piety in the middle ages.
