Never once did I participate in clap for carers although I could hear my neighbours doing so. Last night it snowed just as it did on Monday night when we had 4". Both times I dug out a path along the whole block as I generally have done for the last 17 years since I moved to my house on one of the seven hills of Sheffield. As usual just about all the rest of the footpaths in the area remain snow bound before they freeze and become treacherous ice. My view all along has been that I don't want to see my taxes wasted on winter hospitalisations due to falls.

My question is what have the clap for carers crowd ever done to alleviate (winter) pressure on the NHS?

P.S. It may be noteworthy that my part of town repeatedly returned Nick Clegg as MP then the utterly vile Jared O'Mara so is known for virtue signalling.

Nothing, and they shouldn't have to either. Those who work for the NHS are not heroes, and the NHS is not sacred. It's a pragmatic organisation set up by a pragmatic people to do a big, simple job.

The people clapping are brainless useful idiots. The clapping was part of a strategy concocted by the government for psychological reasons by appointed psychologists who are paid up members of the communist party (I'm not kidding), such a strategy would only occur to a communist who believes the ends justify the means, they said as much:

Below is taken from an article written on the SAGE government minutes that were published, detailing the plan to psychologically subvert the judgement of the population to gain compliance:

Persuasion through shame and approval: Covidiots and heroes

SPI-B psychologists knew that fear on its own would not persuade everyone. Messaging needed to be tailored to take into account different ‘motivational levers.’

"Some people will be more persuaded by appeals to play by the rules, some by duty to the community, and some to personal risk.

It therefore suggested using both social approval and disapproval, with compulsion (legislation) as a backup:

Option 6: Use and promote social approval for desired behaviours
Option 7: Consider enacting legislation to compel required behaviours
Option 8: Consider use of social disapproval for failure to comply
We can see the obvious approval-disapproval dialectic with the ‘Heroes and Covidiots’ narrative that soon began to surface in the news. The term ‘Covidiot’ appeared around March with The Economist’s 1843 Magazine describing covidiots in this way:

Even in a pandemic, many of us are prone to judge others and find them wanting: the term “covidiot” describes any and every person behaving stupidly or irresponsibly as the epidemic spreads. Sometime in early March the word was born, and, almost as fast as the virus spread, so did instances of covidiotic behaviour."

Although it’s not clear how the term came about, it was quickly adopted in UK mainstream and social media. At the same time, we began seeing praise for heroes who ‘did the right thing’ by complying with the government measures.
