Eton College has been repeatedly testing its pupils for Covid since the beginning of term 3 weeks ago. Today, one year group returned 15 positives out of a year group of 250 pupils. All asymptomatic, implying an infection rate of 6% of the year group. The reaction from the school in consultation with PHE? All 250 pupils in that year group have been sent home to isolate for 14 days. A scarcely credible demonstration of bedwetting from one of the country’s leading schools which is enthusiastically embracing UK govt campaign of fear.

It is indeed alarming that academic institutions such as universities - who should know better - are behaving in such a ridiculous way. Their behaviour is often more extreme than the regulations require.
Even though this may not be the response of the academics themselves, it sends a poor message for the general public.
