I just saw two men from our council wearing uniforms. The unforms said they were CIVIL ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS. I didn't realise that they used to be called traffic wardens, but it made me think. These civil enforcement officers could easily double as Covid Marshals. If (or when?) we have to wear masks in the street, as well as on public transport and in shops, these Venezuelan-style enforcement officers could be busy 'reminding' people to obey the latest rules. Also, they could be authorised to 'quarantine' individuals who sneeze or cough in the streets. Those who refuse to self-isolate could easily be gathered together, and concentrated into rural areas until they get better or be dealt with in some other way. I know this is just fantasy, but...
According to laworfiction, "an officer designated by the relevant local authority for the purposes of this regulation" is permitted to "remove them to that place [of self-isolation] using reasonable force".
So now we can look forward to councils appointing unemployed bouncers to drag us back to our houses whenever we break whatever rules Boris says is the law that day.
We needed a Winnie but we got a Bozo.
