Well our family are carrying on with Christmas as planned. I'm driving to my parents' house in a few hours. Of the five of us, only me and my brother are true sceptics, so I suspect there'll be millions doing the same as us.
My understanding is that the Police do not have the power of entry to enforce COVID laws unless you give them permission. Does anyone know if this is the case or have any related advice? They didn’t turn up a few months ago when i reported some kids trying to kick my front door in (and had it on camera), but I wouldn’t be surprised if they take my mother in law coming for dinner on Boxing Day as this is clearly far more serious.....
Here is the existing Tier legislation:

Unless new legislation has been rubber stamped by Hancock in the last 24 hours, "Tier 4" does not exist in law. It is a made up "advisory".
If anybody tries to stop anyone doing anything, ask them to specify the law under which they are acting. As it stands, "Tier 4" is not part of any legal instrument.
Regardless of the statutory law that Hancock makes up:
As many people as possible should just start ignoring this nonsense now. It causes misery and it does not work. SAGE & co are trying to stop the spread of an airborne particle - and which is harmless to over 99% of the population anyway. So, they are trying to do something that is both PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE - as well as TOTALLY UNNECESSARY. And when they fail, again and again, they just put the blame on the public instead of admitting the insane stupidity of their policies.
They might as well order people to stop growing older.
They have taken leave of their senses and should be ignored.
Here it is folks:

"Tier 4" does not exist in law, and thus not enforceable.
It is all purely "guidance".
No fines can be imposed, the police cannot even monitor - let alone enforce.
Have a Merry Christmas 🙂

As for police entering private property, I did see/read (can't remember) someone discussing this quite some time ago. It might even have been Lord Sumption.
Bear in mind that separate to the actual tier rules, are a set of statutory instruments relating to enforcement powers (I can't recall the full title, just search for "enforcement" and "2020". Not sure if they dealt only with public/business premises however.
