In a discussion with a family member who supports lockdown, she argued that Australia proves lockdowns and masks work and that everything is back to normal there. I didn't know enough about Australia to debate this properly. Is there any weight to her argument?

Some state governments have gone totally nuts, like Victoria. Whereas Western Australia and the Northern Territories seem to have been relatively sane. So far. NZ has gone completely North Korea and I really dont have a clue what Jacinda thinks the end game is going to be. I am certain she does not have a clue either. Completely cut off NZ for ever. Like Tokugawa Japan from the 17'th to 19'th century.

No, because Sydney is being overrun with cases again.
Australia (and New Zealand) can continue to hide under their beds, but as soon as they come out, the big bad Rona monster will still be there.

Being an isolated place they managed to stop it breaking out. But thats the easy part. Ultimately, they can never reopen.
Thailand the same, smugly reporting 2 or 3 cases a day and all foreigners in quarantine....until this week where they reported a jump to 600 in a day.
