Is it not somewhat fair to say that the data has "political spin" built into it, given the deaths with "Covid mentioned on the death certificate" is purposefully overcounting as a starting point?
Thats not how ONS count deaths.
It is being reported that 2020 saw most excess deaths since World War Two, due to covid19
Age/population adjusted, the worst since 2008.
It's all in how things are presented isn't it? Pretty shoddy from the BBC to present an exaggerated headline then drill down in the article to the facts. It's a gutter press way of doing things.
Yet again, context and proportion are fundamentally missing from the public debate on this.
There are excess deaths but how many are actually a consequence of the lockdown and decimated economy and not COVID?
Also in the last week published by the ONS, to 25th December, 2912 people died of COVID, but only 874 died of a respiratory disease.
It would be interesting to know how many 'lockdown deaths' are now occurring. Trying to identify them wont be so easy though. The government controls the data that provides the statistics, and they seem hell bent on labeling as many deaths as Covid as possible. After all, why not just say if the Doctor signing the death certificate identifies Covid as the main cause of death, why this 'within 28 days of a positive death'?
Those extra lockdown deaths must be there. If they are not, then it means that the normal work that the NHS which it is now not doing was of little value in extending people's lives.
Age/population adjusted, the worst since 2008.
Did anything particularly remarkable happen in 2008?
