Are there any other readers whose working lives have been frustrated by the repeated closure of archives?

By which I suppose I mean historians. I am on a fixed-term research fellowship; my funders are very understanding about all this affecting my research project - but that's not really the whole problem. I wanted to actually do the research! And 'we understand' is not really a long-term or general solution to the profession basically losing its raison d'etre!

If anyone else on here also does archival research as part of her/his paid job, and is tired of being told not to do her job because COVID, should we try to band together to press for improvement?

A minimum pitch being that archives and research libraries are workplaces for professional researchers, and should therefore remain open to us under any restrictions that still permit people to go to workplaces to carry out any work that cannot be done at home. If you are paid for your archival research, the archives must make arrangements to maintain your access.
(I'm sorry that excludes people who are not paid for their research, but it's a place to start). Research libraries and archives are not adequately categorized as 'Culture media and sport'.

Who could advise us how to unite, complain and campaign (especially since universities seem to be dominated by chin-wobblers)?
